Our History
Willis Knighton Progressive Care Center at 2550 Kings Highway is a 48-bed, skilled-nursing/subacute care facility that specializes in short-term care.
The forerunner of Progressive Care Center, Virginia Hall, opened in 1969 on the campus of Willis Knighton Medical Center (North) to provide a place for patients to easily transition into skilled nursing. It is one of the oldest and most experienced nursing facilities in our region and has operated under the same ownership for more than 40 years. Virginia Hall was the first facility in Louisiana to accept Medicare patients.
In 2025, Progressive Care Center moved to the Kings Highway location of Willis Knighton’s two-story Extended Care Center.
U.S. News & World Report — Best Nursing Home Award
In 2024 and 2025, PCC earned a Best Nursing Home Award from U.S. News & World Report, achieving a rating of "High Performing", the highest possible rating for short-term rehabilitation.
U.S. News evaluated nearly 15,000 nursing homes on patient and resident outcomes, such as hospital readmission rates, staffing levels, health inspection results and other indicators of quality. It gives the designation of "Best Nursing Home" only to those facilities that satisfy its proprietary assessment of consistent performance in quality measures.
Progressive Care Center is the only facility in the region to earn this recognition.
